In today's Gazette: Forget the school run - it's the school crawl

In today's Gazette: Colchester's High Street car ban has been blamed for adding 30 minutes to the daily school run.

Parents at St Thomas More's Primary School in Priory Street say the restrictions are making their journey times four times as long.

* England's most capped footballer has been banned from the road after he admitted drink driving in Colchester.

Peter Shilton, 63, was found to have 85 mcgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath - more than double the legal limit.

* Colchester's Military Festival is to show case the work of Colchester soldiers, it has been revealed.

The event on July 6 will feature Apache attack helicopters, military working dogs, a field hospital and the Parachute Regiment's Red Devils.

* A special report on the murder of Thomas Brittain is to appear on BBC's Crimewatch tonight.

Mr Brittain, 26, was killed in a flat in Colchester and police are hunting for suspect Jack Hummerstone.

Whilst I am not convinced that the traffic restrictions are a good idea, before there was an alternative plan in place properly. It may be a perfect time for parents who live within walking distance to consider if driving their children to school every day is really necessary? Just a thought.

Fully agree. You can see the difference in traffic when it is school holidays, so there must be loads of kids being driven to school each day. If they are sitting in traffic for half an hour, it might be a good time to start walking there instead.
