Spring cleaning - making the air worse?

SCIENTISTS at Essex University are investigating how cleaning creates poor air quality in our homes.

The research, led by Professor Ian Colbeck and Dr Corinne Whitby, is part of a €3m EU-funded project to look at indoor air quality and how it affects people living and working in those environments.

The team will look at the impact of cooking, cleaning and movement and it is hoped the findings could have an impact on hospitals and how viruses spread.

Researchers are working with ten partners from across Europe as part of the four-year project, and as part of the scheme a PhD student from Essex will do a work placement with a European company involved with environment monitoring of particles of air.

Is it any surprise that some students have found a justification for not tidying rooms, cleaning microwaves, wiping work tops and hanging clothes?

But to be fair, ours rarely leave the bedroom until darkness falls, so how can they make much dust?

That says more about professors than clean air?
