Bigger bus stops could ease town centre congestion

BIGGER bus stops may be a better solution to congestion in the town centre.

Councillor Terry Sutton believes removing bollards will improve traffic flow in Colchester’s High Street.

If buses are able to pull completely into stops they will not hold up other traffic, in a solution which could also help Head Street and Queen Street.

No need to spend any money, there's only room for one stop there. Take one out and move some services up to stop Gb which AFAIR is only used by service 2, four buses an hour, and has the biggest shelter!!

Is it April 1st ? how long have those bollards been there and here we are 3 days before a half a**sed attempt to remove traffic from the High street and Brains pictured here is telling the people of Colchester something they have known for years !
I have to laugh nice one Mr Sutton.

As could smaller buses?
And I thought comic relief was tomorrow night!

I wonder how long before the council announces more expensive cycle lanes to impress a government quango.

I think those bollards are there to protect pedestrians. Those photographed belong to the pelican crossing opposite Robert Dyas.

Which party was in control when the council installed those bollards, at colossal expense? The Lib Dems.
Which party did Terry Sutton represent at the time? The Lib Dems.
You put them there, Terry. Don't moan about them now.
Anyway, there won't he any other traffic in High Street, apart from motorbikes and taxis, so why worry about these bollards now?

won't be, sorry

Yes take away the bollards.
Then the buses can swing further onto the pavement removing a few of us pedestrians in the process.
It's all about cars, buses and transport isn't it, no one gives a hoot about the pedestrian yet at some time or another we are all pedestrians.

This town is pure comedy gold at the moment...the lunatics are truly running the asylum.

Still, all this faffing about with the High Street and bus station is taking the focus off the Firsts*ite money pit...

So, it's not all bad.

It does seem a strange time to bring this up when most traffic will be banned from the High Street

Firstsite - are those are the ones that have put in the discreet application for weddings and civil partnership ceremonies?

"jubieee" is correct re application to do marriages despite being illegal in that Firstsite charitable objects and the VAF lease clearly state only art related activities may take place in the VAF. I objected at the relevant council meeting but was ignored by this morally bankrupt bureacracy.

At least the wedding cars will be able to park outside the firsts*ite entrance (unlike the town hall when the car ban starts).

Why would anyone want to hold their wedding in the despised rusty tin shed? That would be a truly awful start to wedded life.

Let's not forget the £28m wasted on firsts*ite and the millions more (of public funds) set to be squandered on this monument to Council vanity.

Don't let the diversionary tactics of incompetence and crackpot schemes elsewhere in the town draw too much focus away from the firsts*ite money pit.

I have too much common sense to be on the council Reg. You would be much better suited. A belligerent blinkered old goat. You would fit right in...

Some of us bus users may not be well off but at least we have the brains not to make a stupid comment like you have done.

The council were told that they needed to remove the "Pinch" opposite Robert Dyas years ago . They replied that they could not as there were services underneath it. There were no services there until they put them in when they altered the High Street.
