Colchester murder: Residents speak of shock
10:57am Saturday 9th March 2013 in News By Andrea Collitt
RESIDENTS have been speaking of their shock at waking up to discover a man has been murdered near their homes.
Two armed men went into flats off St Peter's Street, Colchester, in the early hours of today.
The victim, in his mid 20s, was stabbed several times and died at the scene.
Police have sealed off a large area including parts of the Parkside Quarter, Peter's Street and Castle Park.
Robyn Cheeseman, 24, of St Peter's Street, said: "I am a bit shocked really.
"We came back from a night out around 2am and saw police everywhere, and then woke up this morning and heard someone had been murdered.
"Luckily I had come home with a group of friends."
Grant Newnham, 36, of Stuart House flats off St Peter's Street, said: "When I looked out of my window to see what the weather was like, I saw all the police tape. We live far enough away from the town centre so as not to have to deal with this sort of thing."

Until the Police deal with the Crack & Meth houses in Greenstead this is whats going to continue to happen in colchester, unfortunately. These 'victims' run around Robbing each others drugs until eventually it comes to an end. These people know what they risk living the lifestyle they live. I believe the legalisation of Cannabis will keep the youngsters out of the crime circles they have to get involved with in teenage years to be able to get a bit of weed (which is shockingly common everywhere in the uk with young people) the Teenagers that get into this weed culture are against the police straight away and get constant harassment and are turned into criminals just by smoking. so whats stops them getting them further involved when they are always on their toes anyway? i just feel people think on the wrong levels and need to have an understanding of the streets
