WATERFRONT traders in West Mersea are up in arms over a decision to temporarily close a popular car park.

The Coast Road car park is closed this weekend to provide a dinghy park for a sailing championship being hosted on the island.

Angling tour operators, restaurant owners and fisherman say the closure will prevent people using their businesses.

Hundreds of young sailors are expected to take part in the Volvo Gill Optimist Spring Championship, which is being jointly hosted by Dabchicks Sailing Club and the West Mersea Yacht Club.

As the 141 entrants are all under 16 I'm sure there will be plenty of parents and relatives spending money using the map Dabchicks have drawn up showing local businesses - http://www.dabchicks
