Fire crews extinguish flat blaze

A FLAT had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in Colchester.

Fire crews from Colchester and Great Baddow were called to the flat off Artillery Street at 11.07pm last night.

A woman in her 20s suffered smoke inhalation but managed to get out.

Fire alarms alerted the crews who, while wearing breathing apparatus, searched the property to look for other people thought to be inside.

After 15 minutes everyone was accounted for and the fire was put out.

It is not yet known what started the fire.
