Development access road 'needs repairs'
3:13pm Tuesday 26th February 2013 in News By Will Lodge
Steve Tasker highlights some of the problems in Valley Road, Wivenhoe.
A RESIDENT of a pothole-strewn road is calling for urgent repairs.
Steve Tasker, of Valley Road, Wivenhoe, says the street has been damaged by lorries servicing the Cook’s Shipyard development.
But despite construction firm Taylor Wimpey putting up £5,000 to restore the road, Mr Tasker says it is not enough to do full repairs.
An Essex County Council spokesman said: "Essex Highways does recognise there has been some damage to the main access roads used for the development. The developer contribution has been used against urgent repairs on Bowes and Valley Roads, and urther repairs to these roads will be picked up as part of the Highways Service on-going maintenance programme of works."

I suggest that you contact your local political party to have this issue sorted out with the council.

I believe (correct me If I`m wrong)
a pothole has to be over 2 inches deep to be considerd a pot hole.
may I refur also to another story of a proper pothole a year or two ago, and one comment placed in reply.

But more to the point, why does this idiot think that I should pay for mending his wheel? Our taxes are hard earned and should not be used to compensate idiot car drivers who damage their own property. The pot hole didn't hit his car. The driver made his car hit the pot hole.”
said so very aptly I feel.

Can't see a single pot hole in that road, drive the roads from Tiptree through Tolleshunt Knights to Peldon if you want to see real pot holes.

Be glad when they finish as I have had little sleep for over a week,
Why do they need the buzzers etc. at night, bad enough the noise of the machinery.

When stopped by THE one essex police officer, if he/she is ever seen, just tell them that you don't want to damage your tyres or suspension, might get something done then, not.

What we should all do is drive around between five and ten mile an hour everywhere When stopped by THE one essex police officer, if he/she is ever seen, just tell them that you don't want to damage your tyres or suspension, might get something done then, not.
two things come to mind.
1 you would be causing an obstruction,
then be liable to fines and or penalty points on your license.
2 you would be looked upon as "not quite right!
3 walking people could accuse you of attempt to intimidate them by driving so slowly.
4 would annoy me if I was stuck behind you, thinking you were either very elderly, drunk, on drugs, attempting or actually about to cause an Illegal offence, or mentally incapacitated redering you unfit to drive on "public"
and the word Is "public" roads.
be away with you and your silly Ideas.

I think the definition of the word "pothole" needs to be addressed before the resident in the photo complains too much.

Why shouldn't the council pay for the damage if they can't keep the roads in an adequate condition?

Frinton has some prestige seafront properties covered by the worst roads I have ever seen.
Hollands got its fair share of private/unadopted roads also,
some even featured in the gazettes pages a few years ago.
the residents then paid for the roads resurfacing, as did a story of a few roads in Point Clear.
I think everyone takes for granted that roads we drive on are repaired by ECC, but in reality, only a majority are, not all of them are.
I now wonder in the road in this story is in fact ECC`s remit for repairs?
or is it the developments costs to make the repairs.

I dont know wether the comment attributed to jess was said in jest, l hope it was, because if not the consequences of cars etc swerving to avoid the growing pot hole menace could be quite catastrophic.
but so is the story of a pothole.
there is no pothole, only some surface loss of tarmac.
It will neither puncture nor damage any car wheel or tyre being such a small change in road surface.
Jess was partly correct to be able to drive a vehicle according to traffic, speed limit and road conditions.
Quite simply, If you cannot achieve that,
then I`m afraid your driving habits are in need of refreshing.
The alternative is to drive a truck, bus or lorry and drive over anything with ease.
They say walkin is good also,
but on that I cannot commen upon.
As for cycling, you must be mad, unless using an all terrain mountain bike that can take bumps with ease.
