Wedding cars vetoed in high street ban - even to council wedding venue
8:20am Monday 25th February 2013 in News By James Cox
EVERY bride dreams of making a grand entrance to her wedding by pulling up in a luxury car.
But the high street car ban makes no exception for wedding vehicles, even for ceremonies at the council’s town hall.
Wedding car companies said the council has shot itself in the foot and couples will book elsewhere.
The council said it has parking accessible through the Dutch Quarter and will review it in the first six months of the trial.

no big entrance for new brides now,
just an afterthought tradesmans entrance to be used perhaps.
Quite simply not on this exclusion is it,
it needs someone with a bit of foresight to be enabled to issue a pre arranged pass for entry into the verboten zone for special occasions.
perhaps a wedding carriage in the form of a bus would work?
the 1970`s on the buses comedy springs to mind here.

There won't be after 17 March. Isn't that be confusing for anyone planning a wedding at the Town Hall.

The proposed ban is not going to work properly without a viable ring road and a Park and Ride.
I now visit the town centre less than 6 times a year ,it is a dump with not very much to offer.

Oh dear, the best day of a girls life in ruins.

However I'm assuming that cars will be able to reach the side of the town hall which means the bride will have to walk an extra 20 yards!!

Of course they will "review" it but I guarantee it will be sooner than six months when they realise the loss of revenue from functions such as weddings.
What about guests for the Oyster Feast "Round the back darling" We'll see !!

Clear out all the local politicians and town planners in Colchester and Chelmsford between them they have systematically destroyed my home town. so its a dump but you feel the need to write on the local rags comment page about cars being banned from hight st, your life sounds great!
I have travelled to and worked in many of the worlds trouble spots and can only confirm my thoughts about the town .
It is dangerous at times mostly filthy and run down, fortunately I rarely need to visit the town centre.
Sadly I am too old to re mortgage and move away so I will bide my time and continue to enjoy the right to express my views from the comfort of my armchair on my day off.

These restrictions are neither one thing nor the other; either close the High Street and reinvent it, or allow it to take the pressure off the other roads in the area.

Some roads such as Queen Street and Military Road are disgraceful some days - drunks walking around with trophu dogs off the lead letting their animals foul all over the place, people fighting and swearing, rubbish everywhere. Yet move outside of the town centre and it rapidly changes. I love Colchester, but the area around the town centre is rapidly declining, which is why we moved out. Sadly, many people can't afford to.

I think the car ban is so daft, just another nail in the coffin for the High Street

Definitely an Own Goal for the Council, or will they, after Six months make an exception that will suit their own needs?
