CAMPAIGNING councillors are celebrating victory in a ten year fight to improve safety at a road junction.
For years, thoughtless drivers have cut across streams of on-coming traffic to turn right off the Avenue of Remembrance into the residential Glen Avenue in Lexden.
They have even cut across mainstream traffic coming out of Colchester at 60mph to get on to the Avenue of Remembrance.
The dangerous turns have lead to a number of crashes but now £38,000 of funding has been found to pay for a raised island to be installed.
Delighted councillors Sonia Lewis and Brian Jarvis welcomed the move.
