A DOG has been plucked to safety by rescuers after plunging 10ft down the cliffs at the Naze.

The springer spaniel – called Buddy – vanished over the top of the cliff close to the Naze Tower this afternoon.

Coastguards and the fire brigade went to the scene after his frantic owner called 999.

Three members of Walton’s coastguard team performed a cliff rescue to retrieve the dog.

One officer abseiled over the edge to reach Buddy before reuniting him with his relieved owners.
