Police have released CCTV images of a man suspected of stealing fuel from a petrol station.

Officers have appealed for help identifying the man after a light-coloured BMW was filled with fuel at the Shell garage in Swan Street, Sible Hedingham, at 4pm last Sunday before being being driven off without any attempt to pay being made.

Anyone with information is urged to call Pc Max Ansell at Braintree police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Pity the CCTV photo doesn't show the registration number. No doubt the car was stolen but it might have helped in the hunt for it.

What amazes me is the fact that the police can take a picture of a car registration perfectly, whilst travelling at speeds of up to 180 MPH. Yet a picture of a man standing still in a petrol station is, quite frankly, absolute s***e!
