Historic Colchester shop closing down

JACKS Famous Supplies is closing for good on Saturday.

The historic Colchester shop went into administration 10 days ago following a drop in customers.

Owner Dave Williams and administrators took the decision to close after no buyer came forward for the business.

Mr Williams said: "We did try.  It's disappointing."

Sadly missed. The high street just won't be the same again.

Sad to see Jacks go!

Although Jacks shutting down can't be blamed on the upcoming access restrictions being forced on the High Street I suspect other retailers will follow suit citing the loss of trade caused by this crackpot idea.

This argument stuns me. There are no car parks accessed from the High Street; there is no public parking in the High Street; traffic in the High street doesn't stop so its occupants can do a spot of shopping, it passes straight through and out the other end. To argue it will cause a loss of trade is just not credible. All the same car parks are still there in the same place and still just as accessible.

R47 some people are anti the idea so like to spread gloom.

The same people praise Ipswich and Chelmsford where cars are banned.

are you SERIOUSLY turning a story about an independent retailer closing (due to the opening of pound land two doors down, I expect) into an argument about the limited car ban on the High Street?

You are absolutely mad. Gazette readers are absolutely mad.
