Travelodge has Colchester town centre in its sights

A BUDGET hotel is still hoping to open a branch in Colchester even though the town has been left of its plans for this year.

It is understood Travelodge has earmarked space to build a 90-bedroom hotel at the heart of regeneration scheme in St Botolph’s Quarter.

But the site has been left off a list of 12 new UK hotels due to open in 2013.

A spokesman for Travelodge said: “We are still in negotiations with people in Colchester, but we are not in a position to say where our plans are build.

“Colchester is very much on our list and we want to be in the town centre.”

It is obvious that nobody could start now and have a new hotel open in 11 months.
.
The fact is that this hotel chain has had the option of that Queen St site foir several years now, and has done nothing. This proves the illusory nature of CBC's so-called "cultural quarter". Though what a budget hotel would have to do with culture is anyone's guess.

I see that Colchester is "left of.." where Travelodge plans are concerned.
.
Does that mean Travelodge are a right wing organisation, and Colchester is veering to the socialist persuasion?

Having just returned from staying in one in Reading I'd say the delay is a good thing.
