Hundreds stopped in road safety operation

HUNDREDS of cars were stopped and checked during a road safety operation in Colchester.

More than 50 officers stopped more than 240 vehicles in an effort to increase road safety and reduce crime.

Operation Surround A Town, run yesterday around the Hythe, Greenstead and Stanway, saw seven cars seized for no insurance, 66 for not wearing seatbelts, 32, with expired MOTs and 24 who were using a mobile.
All were found to be breaking the rules and putting lives in danger in just one day in the town.

About 20 other motoring offences were also dealt with, including five cases where vehicles had illegal tints on their windows.

A bit harsh seizing cars for not wearing seat belts and wearing seatbelts!

No problem with seizing cars with no insurance or expired MOTS.

Anyone not wearing a seat belt or using a mobile is an idiot and needs something to waken them up, so good for the police for taking a hard line.

Completely agree but to have their cars seized seems extreme
