Rent-a-car depot set for Colchester

A CAR rental company is hoping to open a new depot in Colchester.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car wants to build the depot on land off Ipswich Road, near to a proposed KFC drive-thru.

According to a planning application submitted to Tendring District Council, it wants to build the 87m sq building and create eight new jobs, including five full-time employees and three part-time workers.

It is unclear whether the new depot would replace the existing base in Hawkins Road, in the Hythe, but it would be able to rent out up to 17 cars and five light goods or people carriers.

An Enterprise spokesman said: “We are constantly reviewing the branches we have and areas where we could benefit from increased coverage, including new branches or improved proximity to our customers and better locations and facilities to improve the service.

“The Colchester discussion is very much part of that normal process of continual location evaluation and certainly no commitments have been made to either opening a new branch or relocating.”
