Business group launch report opposing car ban
A BUSINESS group is to publish a report opposing plans to partially pedestrianise Colchester high street.
The Essex branch of the Federation for Small Businesses said Colchester Council should either abandon current plans or go the whole hog and ban vehicles altogether.
It has commissioned a £3,000 survey of both traffic and retailers to make its point.
Full report on High Street car ban plans in Tuesday's Gazette.

Not pedestrians, it won't be a safe pedestrianised zone!
Not motorists, it will create more chaos on periferal roads!
Not retailers, they will have added costs for timed deliveries before the closure. These cost will have to be passed on with more store closures are likely.
Not the residents of the Dutch Quarter.
Not The disabled motorist.
But of course it's okay for the polluting buses, taxis and motorcyclists so it won't be a closed road anyway.

This bonkers plan should never be referred to as 'partial pedestrianisation'. Unless getting run over by a bus, taxi, bike, motorbike or emergency vehicle doesn't count.
How it will encourage 'cafe culture', market stalls and make the High Street a nicer place is beyond me. Although, maybe we can take inspiration from this Thai vegetable market - simply replace the train with a bus, taxi, motorbike, bike or emergency vehicle. Could become a tourist attraction in its own right.

buses and taxi's in head street. put the market back in the high street where it belongs, the council business rates frozen for 5 years. bring businesses in to the Town to fill the empty shops with big name stores.
blue badge holders to have photo put on the badge and stop them lending it out to there friends. have a proper parking place for blue badge holders of the town.
just look at other Townes and see how they have theirs set up.
then go from there.

I shall be interested in the Federation's results, do we know how long their survey will take?

Disabled badge holders have ALWAYS
had their photo's on the badge, And parking wardens can, and frequently do check for abuse of the benefit.
If this is a measure of your research on this subject..then maybe the rest of your comment has no value..
