I agree with KA. The comments now removed were offensive and one of them came from a known racist source.

The Gazette is greatly superior to the EADT, in that all comments appear immediately, but anyone can report a comment as being out of order, and if the editorial staff agree, the offending post is removed, and the offender is warned or - I believe - banned.
At the EADT you can also comment, but it won't appear till after it has been moderated, i.e. next working day in many cases. Also if your comment is polite but opposed to the EADT's line of old-style conservatism and support for nuclear power, it will be rejected.

This is all well and good, but I made some genuine comments to this thread, and they where also removed.

I just reported the original post, and because of the responses showing, the whole thread was removed - quite rightly.

If you have some valid comments to make on the story, surely there is nothing to stop you making them again?

I have friends who are in house shares and have been for quite some time. I understand that there is lists for sicial housing and some people place higher than others. But I am pleased that space is being made for social housing. Shame it's only 8 houses being built, but it is something.

I used to be a big supporter of the NHS, welfare state and council housing but the longer I live the more I see it as a failed but well-intentioned idea that is no longer manageable or affordable.

What is needed is better regulated private housing sector and the return of old rent control system that was abolished by Thatcher.

Furthermore the homeless and people on housing lists should be encouraged to move to areas of Britain (Northern England) and the European Union (Spain, Poland, Ireland) where housing is more available and affordable - after all we're all Europeans these days - aren't we?

I really do agree with your comment here. But there is only one small problem with the last bit.
Yes we are all Europeans these days.
But if we were to go and live in any of the other European countries, knock on the door of the welfare office there.
We would be shown the door!
You have to work there in that country two years before you can get any kind of welfare.
Yet in this country, you can get it right away, and get loans if wanted to start a business.

Just as a final note to those here with their narrow minded comments.
It is not racist to stand up for your rights and country!.
