St Mary’s School for Girls has will welcome representatives from around the UK to the national Eco-Schools Conference in February.

The school has been selected after being recognised as an ‘outstanding eco-school ambassador’, thanks to a number of projects it has it has completed since first becoming an eco-school in 2006.

Sarah Wilding, eco co-ordinator at the Lexden Road school, said: “We are very proud to be hosting the conference and it’s a testament to the hard work of the children and of the staff.”

The school first got involved in the programme, part of the Keep Britain Tidy campaign, when Mrs Wilding was invited to attend a meeting with Colchester Council.

Mrs Wilding will be giving a presentation during the conference, which takes place on 15 February, while delegates will also be given a tour of the school.
