In Today's Gazette: Eight page picture special on the changing face of Colchester
10:46am Tuesday 15th January 2013 in News
Colchester High Street in 1903, picture courtesy of Patrick Denney.
ONE hundred years ago, there were few cars on the roads and Colchester was a fraction of the size it is today.
A century later, and a series of fascinating pictures published in Tuesday's Gazette show how much the town has altered.
With the help of historian and author Patrick Denney, we reveal the old and new through a series of fascinating photographs.

Smashing to see many of Colchesters
historic buildings still jealously preserved and much of the towns heritage still apparent.
The Grand Theatre (hippodrome) easily blends in with the adjacent modern fascade, and the town hall, still standing proud in the centre of the high street, and all this is a tribute to planners past and present.
Interesting to see the old cups hotel
(now the job centre) and next door I recall, in the fifties, attending the ' old' corn exchange: Rock'n'Roll dances.
(such memories).
Yes there have been many changes
and yes not all for the good, but all- in-all, Colchester still maintains it's place in history, and it's still exudes it's wonderful abience..
