A NEW musical masterpiece could be commissioned for Colchester’s famous Oyster Feast.
The work is part of a series of initiatives put forward as part of a £368,000 bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The cash is needed to restore the historic Moot Hall organ which has fallen into a state of disrepair.
The organ, which was installed when Colchester Town Hall was completed in 1902, was previously used at numerous civic occasions including the feast and mayor making.
However, it has deteriorated to such a state where it can no longer be used.
A campaign group, the Friends of the Moot Hall Organ, was set up to get funding for the restoration of the organ.
An initial bid to the lottery fund was successful and now the Friends are waiting anxiously to hear if their supplementary bid has been successful.
