County council leader to step down

THE leader of Essex County Council has announced he will not be standing for re-election.

Conservative Peter Martin, 68, has led the authority for three years and will step down following elections on May 2.

Mr Martin, who represents the Chelmer division, said he took the decision after being a county councillor for 24 years to allow him to spend more time with his family and pursue other interests.
