Raiders trash family's home

In today's Gazette: Burglars ransacked a family home and stole items from autistic children.

Raiders broke into the Colchester house of mother-of-three Abbie Shannon and stole a TV, computer games and alcohol - and even ate food from her fridge.

 

  • A cyclist has no worries about overindulging at Christmas - after reaching her target of pedalling 8,000 miles.

     

    Helen Hancox has cycled an average of 22 miles a day in the past year on a recumbent tricycle - burning off 343,816 calories.

     

  •  A school which gave 1,200 children a iPad each has admitted 40 per cent of the devices have been broken within a year.

     

    Honywood Community Science School in Coggeshall said 489 have had to be replaced as they are beyond repair.

     

  • More people died as a result of road accident in Essex in 2012 than in the previous year.

     

    Police said 48 people died in 46 incidents last year compared to 41 in 38 incidents during 2011.

I feel as sorry for these children and their mother as I do for that poor child whose Blackberry was stolen in Colchester a few days ago, attracting so many contributions. Yet this story has been up on the site for almost 24 hours, and I am the first to comment.

Agree with you, Boris, getting burgled must be a horrible thing.

If anybody offers cheap goods which seem too good to be true, this sort of burglary could quite possibly be the origin of the material. If you´re buying cheap stuff that you suspect is "knocked-off", think about that.

This seems a strange place to burgle - it is surely someone local who knew they were away rather than a random job and that makes it even more disgusting.
