In today's Gazette: A police officer from Colchester has been jailed for 18 months for perverting the course of justice.

PC Ian Betts, 33, sent a fake letter during a custody battle with his ex-partner in a bid to get her arrested.

* Police searching for missing woman Natalie Piner have found her body in a car park off Marine Parade East in Clacton.

* A dad who cheated death in a horrific ski-ing accident has now opened his own gym.

Experience ski-er Adam Bailey was in a coma for five weeks after the accident in France. But three years on he has recovered and is now co-owner of the new Anytime Fitness gym in Stanway.

* Colchester's contemporary art venue firstsite has been awarded a £400,000 grant.

The gallery was one of five to benefit from a £5 million national arts programme which was announced at the Tate Modern.
