Bus crashes into scaffolding
A BUS has crashed into scaffolding in Colchester town centre.
The First double-decker service collided with scaffolding which surrounds a building on the corner of Head Street and St John's Street.
Head Street is partially blocked because of the accident and is adding to existing traffic delays in the area caused by emergency water main works at the bottom of Balkerne Hill.
PC Jo Jaggo, at the scene, said the current estimate was for the bus to be removed within the next hour once scaffolders had disentangled the bus.

Stupidest thing is having buses going up and down St. Johns Street in both directions. I guess that's why this bus was forced to navigate this tight turn that is not really suitable for buses.
Why not send the bus up Head Street, High Street, Queen Street to get to Barton's Folly? Would also give passengers the chance to get off in the town centre itself if they wanted to rather than at Gala Bingo's £2m smoking shelter.

What they should have done was cone off part of the road, but that would have interfered with the sacred traffic flow.
So they didn't, and they ended up with a much bigger problem.
No surprise there, then.

Scaffolding looks close to edge of pavement with no real warning signs or lights on it. Having said that, no excuse for bus driver to be off the highway, unless the road camber has tilted back of the bus into overhanging scaffolding.
