Wasps cost council £22k

WASPS have cost Colchester Council £22,000 in lost income so far this year.

A six-month review of the authority’s finances has revealed the shortfall in cash received from pest control.

The council charges £61 for a pest controller to destroy a wasp nest at a house and poor weather is blamed for the low wasp numbers.

When I first read this, I thought it meant pest control had been stealing the money. But of course it means that a lack of wasps has reduced expected income. Those pesky wasps never do what they´re supposed to, they obviously spent too much of the summer trying to drown themselves in my beer!

So, wasps cost £22,000 to get rid of or is it a case of because of low wasp numbers the money wasn't recieved?

Wasps are usually only a problem in August, and the same extermination officers also deal with other pests such as rats and fleas. Surely they can be found some other jobs to do when pest numbers are in retreat?

I hate wasps. I am allergic to their stings.
