A TEACHER is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for a cancer charity by selling her artwork.

Claire Gillen’s mum Brenda Fulcher was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 18 months ago and when Mrs Gillen looked for support, she found Pancreatic Cancer UK.

She immediately became a charity volunteer and has already raised more than £1,000.

Now she hopes to sell 18 pieces of art, which are on display in Colchester General Hospital during November.

Mrs Gillen, 38, of Greenstead Road, Colchester, said: "It’s not just about raising money, though that is important, but I also want to raise awareness.

Mrs Gillen, whose grandfather died from the disease, has also enlisted the help of five-year-old daughter Niamh *CORR* to help give out information on the disease.

Mrs Fulcher, 65, is being cared for at home by visiting by hospice staff.
