AN anti-weapon campaign launched by the mother of murdered Jay Whiston has been backed by football stars.

Colchester United players Karl Duguid and Michael Rose are backing the drive and have pledged to wear Only Cowards Carry t-shirts during their warm up before their game against Notts County next Tuesday night.

Caroline Shearer, 47, launched the campaign in memory of son Jay Whiston, 17, who was stabbed at a party in Colchester.

U’s midfielder Karl Duguid said: “We really need to make people aware of the campaign and why we’re doing it.

“Knife crime is a very big concern and sadly it’s become a real problem."
