Tory view on House of Lords is 'quite unbelievable', says town MP

COLCHESTER MP Sir Bob Russell has accused Conservatives of hypocrisy after failing to support plans to reform the House of Lords.

Liberal Democrat Sir Bob said at a time when the UK was trying to promote democracy around the world, it is “quite unbelievable” Tories are not backing Liberal Democrats’ proposals to make the House of Lords entirely elected.

“At a time when in Britain we are arguing for democracy around the world, we are not getting our own house in order,” Sir Bob said.

A hypocrite as defined in the dictionary is a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.

I'm surprised you're still pretending to care "sir" Bob. Afterall, you're only one step away from 'earning' your pension from sitting in the House of Lords.

Yes, it is surprising. The Lords is the obvious insurance policy for a faithful MP who hasn't rebelled and who might still lose his seat in 2015.

The proposed multi-representative list system would have meant Bob would have been guaranteed a Lordship in an Eastern region constituency. He has to sweat it out a bit now.
