Public event kicks off Hythe project
4:00pm Tuesday 30th October 2012 in News
A NEW project aimed at making Colchester’s Hythe a popular tourist attraction has been launched.
Show Me Hythe will feature a new trail running through Colchester’s port and the transformation of neglected empty spaces, culminating in a celebratory festival next spring.
On Saturday, anyone interested in the future of the Hythe was invited to a public consultation event where they could say which landmarks the route should take in and where needs sprucing up.
Using part of 500,000 Euros of funding, Colchester Council and architects Dallas Pierce Quintero will create a trail of footpaths and cycle links.
They will place history boards with QR codes, allowing smartphone users to download the stories of prominent people and places that have shaped the Hythe in the past.
Also featured will be navigation markers pointing to destinations like the TS Colne Lightship and the old Timber Works, while overgrown open spaces will also be overhauled.
