A TODDLER has helped to raise almost £700 to fight cancer.

Nine-month-old Mia McGlown was sponsored by dad Martin to stand up as many times as she could during the Stand Up for Cancer TV broadcast on Friday.

During the show, little Mia stood up 14 times, so at £3 a time, Mr McGlown, 40, of Richmond Road, who works for Cancer Research, has donated £42 to the charity.

Money from friends and family brought Mia’s total to £670.

“She has just started to become aware of her feet and I was thinking of innovative ways to raise money and I came up with it,” he said.

“We told her what she was doing, but at nine months old, how much she understood it is anyone’s guess.”

Mia’s fundraising was tweeted around the UK by show hosts Alan Carr and Davina McCall.

“Millions of people knew what she was doing, so the support for her was amazing.”

Mia was supported in her front room by dad and mum Majorie, 40, and brothers Harvey, seven, and Joshua, eight.
