Colchester Leisure World Colchester Leisure World

WORK to refurbish Colchester Leisure World’s reception will start on November 5.

The larger reception will feature self-serve kiosks, two computers for customers to book activities, free WiFi, a larger Zoggs shop and a new coffee shop.

Some squash courts will make way for the expansion.

A temporary entrance and reception area will be set up until the work is completed next spring.

More cleaners needed, the place is filthy.

This story was around last week, when the impression given was that they were looking for suggestions about how to spend the cash. Clearly, we must have mis-understood what asking for views meant, as it has already been decided.

Almost every comment then was about the cleaning, and I agree also. The changing rooms can be appalling. And the thing is people take less care to keep a place clean if it´s already filthy, so it just spirals down.

By all means add coffee shops and so on, but the central purpose of the Leisure World is for people to take part in sport and activities. There are other places around now, and people will choose where to go based on the facilities. When I go to the gym, I´m not bothered about the coffee shop, what I want is a clean changing area with secure lockers. Anything else is just fluff around the edges.

Some of the squash courts!? There are only 4 and they are difficult enough to book already.
