Heating repairs a priority in council homes

A HOUSING association has said it is ready for the winter months and a possible surge in demand should heating systems fail.
Colchester Borough Homes, which maintains properties owned by Colchester Council, is gearing up to help tenants under the Right to Repairs scheme.
The government-run initiative commits the housing association to treating a total loss of heating as an emergency and prioritising repairs to central heating.

If the Gazette really wants to do a story how about doing a story on how some of us who are council tenants are living in properties that have black mould which is toxic. All they do is send people round to look at it but do nothing about it. It is under , behind and in my kitchen units!

Even if I was not disabled with osteoarthritis in all my joints, spondylitis in my spine and heart problems and was able to remove the units I would to have get permission from the council or risk being charged with criminal damage! Maintenance of council owned properties is the responsibility of Colchester Borough Homes not the tenants!

I can only speak for the properties that I have seen or lived in on Greenstead and while these properties used to be low cost in terms of rent, the rents have increased a lot over the past few years.
Proofreader is correct about the serious damp issues. It's a serious issue and no sooner have you cleaned it up when the place is covered in it again.
In addition the properties are very old and as I mentioned they cost a small fortune to keep warm as they have very little heating insulation and a whole range of other problems that the landlord doesn't appear interested in fixing.
Sometimes I wonder if the council is just allowing these properties to be run down as an excuse to knock them down, sell off the land and redevelop the area.
