Clacton set for royal visit next month

VOLUNTEERS and staff at Clacton’s hard-working Citizens Advice Bureau are set for a special royal visit next month.

Princess Anne will be visiting the Clacton headquarters of Tendring branch of the CAB on November 29.

The Princess Royal will be helping to celebrate its successful Reach Out Project, an innovative scheme launched three years ago to help the most hard-to-reach people in deprived areas.

Alex Stanmore, chairman of CAB Tendring, said everyone is looking forward to the visit.

“It will be a very great honour and privilege to welcome Her Royal Highness to our headquarters,” he said.

“She will be told about how the project operates and how it has mas made such a huge difference to so many vulnerable people.”

The scheme has been recognised as an example of “best practice” in both the UK and the European Union.

The aim is to reduce health inequalities and improve people’s quality of life by prevention and early intervention.

The scheme sees advisors knock on doors in the district’s most deprived areas, including Jaywick’s Brooklands Ward, officially the most deprived ward in the country.

The Princess Royal, who is patron of the CAB nationally, will meet advisers, staff, volunteers and commissioners, as well as representatives from Tendring Council and Clacton MP Douglas Carswell.
