Vorderman loved Countdown presenter (From Essex County Standard)

• "I grew up in the Yorkshire Television area and hence grew up watching Richard Whiteley on 'calendar' , it's various spin offs, and of course countdown ( on ch4 but made by YTV ).Not only was he great at flying the flag for Yorkshire (both YTV and the county itself), but a genuinely lovely warm person. I remember visiting YTV and meeting both
  Richard and Carol at the end of a grand final recording of countdown. At the end of recording you could ask for autographs by going up onto the set, I asked RW to sign a book on local tv,and to my surprise had a wonderful chat with him, my tv hero! That chat about the east coast and where you could receive either YTV or Tyne Tees sounds a bit nerdy but he was genuine and a delight to talk with. Sadly missed and warmly and fondly remembered."
