Reading used to be a solitary pursuit but not any more.
Bookworms are sharing their love of the written word through book clubs across
the country.
Now the County Standard is launching its very own book club and we are
inviting you to join us.
Each month, we will review three books. We hope you will join our club, read
the book and share your views.
The club is being set up with the help of award-winning book shop Red Lion
Books in Colchester High Street.
Vouchers will be printed each month, which will give readers money off the
books being studied through the book club.
Thoughts, opinions, comments can all be posted on our website, and some will
also be published in the paper.
Peter Donaldson, who owns Red Lion Books, said: The whole phenomenon
of book clubs has been very dramatic over the past few years. We are in touch
with ten different clubs in Colchester.
We are in the know here and sometimes they are for suggestions on books
to read.
Mr Donaldson added: The clubs encourage people to read books they might
not otherwise have done. This way, they discover new authors and new styles
of writing which they might not have known about but which they enjoy.
You can also get a better appreciation of a book you have read by talking
about it with other people and get different points of view.
