One of the best British comedy series is being performed in Maldon.
Maldon Drama Group has taken to the stage to perform three episodes of BBC comedy Blackadder, and director George Greenham said the performance was not one to miss.
“We have got three of the best episodes on offer to the audience, it is going to be absolutely brilliant,” he said.
The group will put on Bells, from Blackadder II, Sense and Senility, from Blackadder The Third, and Goodbyeee, from Blackadder Goes Fourth.
Bells tells the story of a young lady who, rather than become a prostitute, decides to get a job in Edmund Blackadder’s house dressed as a man.
The man of the house then finds himself mysteriously attracted to the new servant and is unsure what to do.
Sense and Senility sees the Prince narrowly escaping an assassination attempt at the theatre, which spurs him to hire actors to improve his speech and demeanour, but the prince does not understand acting.
The final episode of the evening, and of the famous BBC series, Goodbyeee, mixes comedy with the poignant Great War, where Blackadder leads his men “over the top”
of the trenches to certain death.
“The final scene we have put together is certainly my favourite,” added Mr Greenham.
“We have worked very hard on it and worked out the best way to do it.
“It is not, of course, going to be a big belly laugh, but the challenge is mixing humour with what is really the futility of war.”
The performances, which begin at 7.30pm each night, run until tomorrow, at Maldon Town Hall, in Market Hill.
Tickets are priced between £6 and £8, and are available from Maldon Tourist Information Centre, in Wenlock Way, Maldon, or on 01621 856503.
A licensed bar is available before the performance, during the interval, and after the show.
