REVIEW: Second Glance

by Jodi Picoult RRP £7.99. Every Jodi Picoult book has a theme or a moral dilemma, but this one is slightly different.

The book is based on the supernatural – whether ghosts exist and can be found.

It starts with Ross, who has been trying to kill himself since his girlfriend Aimee died in a car accident.

Several attempts to die have failed and he has become a ghost hunter in the hope of finding her that way.

Meanwhile a big business is trying to buy an old house in his sister’s town Comtosook to redevelop the land.

Local Indians put up a fight claiming it as a burial ground of their ancestors and it would seem they are right – as soon as the deeds are signed over to the developers strange things start to happen.

Ross is called in to investigate and meets a mysterious woman Lia who captures his heart, but she is as troubled as he is.

I’m a fan of Jodi Picoult’s writing but this book is very different to her previous work.

It is a lot more complicated and mysterious than her other books, leaving the reader with no idea where she is going, but nevertheless enjoying the ride.

The story is told from several viewpoints, which can be a bit confusing, but it is definitely worth the effort.
