A major employer has announced 110 new full-time jobs in the city centre in the run-up to Christmas.

Domestic and General is recruiting the staff at its Brighton contact centre in Queens Square.

The insurance group is looking to fill every position by January 2015.

The new full-time staff will support the company through its busiest time of year and take the total number of employees at the firm to around 900.

Additional part-time jobs will also created in the New Year.

Owen Evans, recruitment manager at Domestic and General, said: “We are gearing up to prepare the company for the busiest time of year. We feel the job vacancies are not just positive news for us as a business, but for Brighton as a city.

“These are permanent positions offering great long-term opportunities in the areas of sales and customer service.

“While we are looking for applications from people who can demonstrate some level of experience in customer service or sales, we do offer full training and provide every opportunity for people to succeed.”

The announcement comes soon after Brighton and Hove was placed in the top 10% for creating new jobs in the UK.

In October the Office for National Statistics business register and employment survey ranked Brighton and Hove 38th out of 380 local authority areas in Great Britain for employment growth.

Employment was up 8.1% between 2010 and 2013, a rise from 116,865 to 126,329.

The improvement was even higher in the private sector, at 10.5%. Domestic and General provides warranty services and product protection for more than 15 million customers.

All new starters will receive an initial seven days of intensive training – with an additional three months of ‘on the job’ training and coaching, in customer service, sales and telephone-based communication skills.

In 2013 Domestic and General completed a 4,704-square foot extension to its office, which now encompasses the whole of Queens Square House, which overlooks Churchill Square.

A further redesign is currently underway to accommodate the new recruits and help facilitate future plans for the business.
