It's by no means recent, but Colchester's impressive scene for music, arts, and culture continues to grow.

I've showcased thousands of events through the Keep Colchester Cool project I launched in 2009.

Now, I'll bring the best events to you each week which I recommend checking out.

Here are my five recommendations for music, arts, and culture in Colchester in the week ahead.

It's early in the season, but will a more prominent DJ be playing in Colchester this year than the American house music legend Roger Sanchez?

The globally renowned DJ, remixer, and producer has earned recognition through his Grammy wins, DJ awards, and his influential radio show and record label.

You'll find him at Musik in The Park in Lower Castle Park on Saturday. Sanchez will be joined by DJs Jess Bays, George Mensah, Sam Dungate, Aston Martin, and Max Evans.

Starts at 1pm. Tickets from £29.50.

Jane's Walk Colchester is one of the city's most impressive events.

Led by local people on local themes, the walks are in honour of the urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs (1916-2006).

30 walks take place between May 4 and 12, and there is something for everyone. Find Jane's Walk Colchester on Facebook for a comprehensive list of walks.

Various times and all walks are free.

Head over to Rowhedge on Sunday when Ye Olde Albion hosts the annual Rowhedge Music Day.

There'll be a mini-beer festival and live music from Martin Newell, Benjamin Brown, Flip Top Head, Gasoline Green, Sam Eagle, Jake Murrells, Elephant Jane, and MartPaul.

The event starts noon. It is free entry but donations to Parkinsons UK are welcome.

False Colours will be at the Foresters Arms on Bank Holiday Monday.

The award-winning indie folk duo will play their unique happy/sad, rhythmic, and uplifting "jangle-folk" unpredictably interspersed with varying levels of dry, self-deprecating humour.

It starts at 2pm and entry is free.

Classic Horror Nights are back at Colchester Arts Centre on Thursday.

Local horror aficionado Jason Frederick presents a screen gem from the golden age of horror.

This time, it's the classic Dracula AD 1972. Enjoy the film and all the usual silly props, cocktails, quizzes, and horror-themed fun.

Doors open 7.30pm and tickets cost £6.
